Human First invites you to a discussion about shaping the vision and the future of employment for individuals with developmental disabilities. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, Aril 21st at Human First Inc. Pride Center located at One Michael Ave, Farmingdale, NY. This networking event is an opportunity to listen to a short presentation and engage with individuals/ jobseekers in addition to networking with other businesses in the area.
Our Networking Brunch will also give you the opportunity to support the Business Advisory Council (BAC) which consists of Business and Civic leaders who will assist Human First in identifying Business Partners who are interested in implementing Supportive Employment. Being a part of BAC allows professionals to share expertise on the local job market and recommend focus areas for skill development, in addition to referring potential business partners. We hope you’ll be able to join us for this wonderful event!
Supportive employment is a program which is designed to personalize the employment relationship between a job candidate and an employer. It is a hands-on approach to helping our participants with a desire to work, seek and retain employment in an integrated environment that truly caters to their skills and expertise. Through the stages of Discovery, Job Development, Job Coaching, and close monitoring by support staff, our participants are assisted with a personal-centered approach that fulfills their needs for independence and financial responsibility. This approach brings them closer to their goals of growing into productive members in their communities and society.
We believe that each individual, regardless of disability, CAN and WILL be contributing members of our society. At our Pride Center, located in Farmingdale, individuals are encouraged to spend a majority of their day out in the community, getting to know our local neighbors and business owners. We strive to make connections within the community in hopes to eliminate any negative stigmas towards the population in which we serve. Currently our individuals are volunteering at sites within Nassau and Suffolk County. Our most recent endeavor has been a partnership with the Applebee’s Corporation. We organized a Flapjack Fundraiser to raise money as well as awareness for our new supportive employment program. Individuals who currently participate in our programs, were given the opportunity to help organize and work the event.
Human First is a not for profit agency which provides services for individuals with disabilities. Our mission is to provide greater opportunities for individuals with special needs to reach their personal goals. We are dedicated to developing support systems for both individuals and their families. These support systems allow each individual to transform their social abilities, integrate into our society and live a happy and healthy life as independently as possible. With more than 500 well trained professionals in 14 programs, we are able to support people with special needs to lead independent and socially fulfilling lives.
We strive to empower our individuals to transition towards independent living, and a key
component of that transition is ensuring they secure appropriate jobs. We have proven that providing job training program serves three very important goals. First, it affords the individual a greater measure of independence and ownership of his or her own life. Second, it allows the individual to move away from public assistance, which could potentially result in a significant cost savings to taxpayers. Third, it supports community integration and socialization.
