JoAnn Winkhart – Bio

Ms. Winkhart holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing & Merchandise Management from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She began her career in the NYC garment center in 1999. Fast forward to the present, JoAnn is widely known as the outgoing, gregarious promoter for one of the hottest restaurant groups on Long Island, the Two Events Group, which owns and operates The Refuge restaurant in Melville, and K.Pacho restaurant in New Hyde Park. Since assuming her position as Business Development Executive in 2011, her primary goal has been to foster lasting relationships with neighboring businesses, corporate entities, institutions, business networking & other professional organizations and charities within the local community, and to cultivate new business through various promotional tools including social media and participating in a vast variety of networking groups & events. One of those is PinkTie.org, of which JoAnn is a PinkTie 1000 member. PinkTie is the fastest growing charitable organization on Long Island and The Refuge hosts the committee meetings leading up to its annual Gala event which attracts more than 3,000 attendees every Spring.

JoAnn’s charitable contributions don’t end there. She also has a passion for animals. In May of 2014 JoAnn was appointed the Humane Society of the United States to be the District Leader for Congressional District 1 in NY. As a District Leader she actively engages in ongoing legislative advocacy at the federal, state and local levels, working in her district to drive awareness among lawmakers and the general public concerning critical animal protection issues. Through her advocacy she has developed relationships with several local shelters, wildlife rehabilitation centers and other animal welfare groups. One of her favorite things to promote at The Refuge is the seasonal “Barkin’ Brunch” in which leashed dogs can accompany their owners to a weekly Sunday brunch on the patio. More than $15k was donated to several Long Island rescues and groups that participated in the special “Barkin’ Brunch” fundraisers that JoAnn coordinated, and which Tito’s Vodka so generously sponsored in 2017! Several dog adoptions were made as well!

Another tangible way JoAnn’s love of animals has been incorporated into her work environment was through motivating The Refuge to add vegan dining options to its menu. To her great delight, not only did The Refuge add vegan options but an entire vegan menu was created offering diners several options, including a dessert! The plant based menu has been so enthusiastically received that The Refuge even hosts specially themed vegan dining events as well.

The New Year will bring many exciting opportunities to the Rt. 110 corridor as The Refuge is expanding. A new full service, state of the art event space is planned for a Fall opening.  Catering to both the corporate and social market, The Refuge will be the place to hold the most memorable events. The off premise catering business will also continue to grow in 2018, with catering take-out and delivery available for all party sizes.
