Merrill S. Zorn, President/CEO – Zorn’s of Bethpage
When your name is on the marquis, there is a certain added pressure to make sure everything is perfect. Add in four generations of family, over 77 years of tradition and secret recipes and you have a very unique business requiring innovative managerial skills and excellent business acumen. Merrill runs the entire business as well as the island wide catering operation.
Today, Zorn’s of Bethpage is one of the most widely known catering and takeout restaurants on Long Island, recognized for its homemade food and commitment to customer service. “A loyal customer once came up to me and said…’You don’t own Zorn’s it belongs to Long Island, it belongs to us’, and I was delighted, because it’s gratifying to know that we mean so much to our community” she says proudly.
After graduating college with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and minors in both Biology and Psychology, Merrill rejoined the family business. After working in all aspects from the kitchen to the catering room to the counter to the cashier’s office, she assumed the position as office manager and director of employee and customer relations. She is now the President /CEO and loving it all for 34 years.
Merrill exemplifies the spirit of generosity and is proud to be a part of a business that gives as much as it can. Known for its corporate giving and commitment to the community, Zorn’s of Bethpage donates food weekly to Island Harvest, has also been deemed “cause champions” for Clean Air New York and by Long Island Transportation Management (LITM) for their efforts in the “Commuter Choice Program”. She is keenly aware of the special requirements it takes to run a small business on Long Island, having had to construct and alter existing software programs and create new recipes to meet the needs of her business.
Merrill’s over the top personality has made her an active member in American Business Associates, Huntington Rotary, Bethpage and Melville Chambers of Commerce, also a board member of the Huntington Chamber as well as The Huntington Townwide Fund Executive Board, and ACIT.
Dedicated to charity and local organizations, she’s on the community relations board at St. Joseph Hospital; she is an avid supporter of our Veterans, Grateful Greyhounds, Canine Companions and so many more.
Just a few of her varied interests include skydiving and over 16 years of International Ballroom Dance competition. She is also very active in the Long Island Corvette Owners Association and is a life member of the NRA, and the Clear meadow Pistol Club.
