Robert (Rob) Callahan – Bio
Mr. Callahan holds a Bachelor in Business Administration, a Master of Business Administration, a Secondary Certification in Business and Distributive Education, and New York State Certification Extension for Coordinator of Work-Based Learning Programs for Career Development.
Mr. Callahan has over 35 years of business experience in a wide range of industries including, machine and equipment manufacturing, warehousing, food service and catering, telecommunications, contracting officer for real property procurement for the U.S. Government, building construction, sports marketing and management, and education. For the past eighteen years, Mr. Callahan’s primary occupation has been as a Business Education Teacher at South Huntington School District’s Walt Whitman High School. Mr. Callahan has taught every business course listed in the course catalog and has created curriculum for Accounting, Business Law, Entrepreneurship, Sports Marketing, Sports Management, Financial Decision Making, Work-Based Learning, Career Exploration, Retail Store Operations, and Hospitality Management.
More recently, Mr. Callahan serves as the district’s work-based learning coordinator to facilitate work-based learning experiences for students with and without disabilities. Under Mr. Callahan’s direction, students have job-shadowed and interned in hospitals, computer businesses, sport venues, art schools, and multi-media marketing operations. Students with disabilities have also served as Mr. Callahan’s interns for several years. Mr. Callahan has also facilitated the placement of dozens of students with local business operations including Staples, Best Buy, Simon Malls, Spirit of Huntington, Modell’s, various attorney’s offices, medical offices, Island Physical Therapy, Rite Aid, King Kullen Supermarkets, Buy Buy Baby,
Mr. Callahan meets regularly with local community organizations including the Melville Chamber of Commerce, Huntington Chamber of Commerce, the Suffolk County Workforce Development Board, the Hauppauge Industrial Association, and participates in various networking groups, job fairs, and trade shows. In addition, Mr. Callahan coordinates the Career Pathways Advisory Council for South Huntington Schools for the purpose of connecting students and teachers with the local business community.
As the CDOS Grant coordinator for South Huntington Schools since December 2016, Mr. Callahan has designed and initiated a grade nine through twelve CDOS program in which students with disabilities and students without disabilities may meet the NYS requirements for to earn the NYSED CDOS Commencement Credential certifying that they are prepared for entry-level employment. The program includes participation in several Career and Technical Education (Business) classes, the development of a student-centered electronic portfolio with an imbedded career plan and employability profile, and assistance with work-based learning placement.
Mr. Callahan is also the Assistant Golf Professional at the Holbrook Country Club, located in Holbrook, New York. For nearly twenty years, Rob has instructed golfers of all ages and skill levels. Many of these golfers have been under Rob’s tutelage for over ten years. While all of these golfers are happy to have improved their golf game after taking lessons with Rob, many of the junior golfers have gone on to play golf while attending college, several have received scholarships, and at least five have gone on to pursue a career in the golf industry.
